Principal Investigator
Meltem Karaca, PhD
Assistant Professor of Psychology
Assumption University
Meltem Karaca is an Assistant Professor of Psychology at Assumption University, following a postdoctoral fellowship in the Department of Neurology at Boston University where she focused on enhancing everyday memory functioning in individuals with dementia and traumatic brain injury. She completed her Ph.D. in Psychology from the University of Massachusetts Lowell in 2022, following an M.S. in Neuroscience and a B.A. in Psychology from Bilkent University in Türkiye. Her research program examines the role of self-perceptions of aging in older adults’ memory, as well as strategies to improve memory retention in individuals with and without cognitive impairment. Additionally, she is interested in investigating methods to improve student learning and academic performance both in and out of the classroom. At Assumption, she teaches Psychology of Aging, Introduction to Psychology, the course on Experimental Techniques in Human Neuroscience, and a Cognitive Neuroscience seminar.

Avi Miller
Undergraduate Research Assistant
Assumption University
Avi Miller is an undergraduate student at Assumption University, majoring in neuroscience with a minor in psychology. She is in the Honor's Program and is currently completing her thesis, in which she examines how motivation impacts the P300 component. She is also a member of Peers Advocating Wellness for Students on campus where she serves on the executive board planning events and committees with fellow students. The goal is to spread awareness on mental health, healthy lifestyles, relationship advocacy, and substance use. After graduating from Assumption University, Avi plans to pursue graduate study in neuroscience.
